In all lessons, we utilize targeted subjects aligned with students' levels through questioning, activities, and teaching methods that bring our objectives to life.
Turkish Language
We employ various techniques and strategies to help students use, read, understand, and think in Turkish accurately and effectively. Students learn to make inferences in their own words, identify key concepts, relate new information to everyday life, provide examples, and express ideas visually. Collaborative working groups promote respect for diverse opinions.
Science and Technology
In Science and Technology, we aim to establish cause-and-effect relationships, identify similarities and differences from data, create motion graphics, and interpret graphs. Students are encouraged to engage in critical thinking, make comments, produce new information, and connect their learning to real-life scenarios. Scientific thinking and study skills are developed within a fully equipped laboratory where all disciplines of science are distinguished.
Mathematics
Mathematics classes focus on developing analytical thinking. It is essential to relate abstract concepts to real-life examples. Students are engaged in logic-based reasoning, data interpretation, and relevant problem-solving scenarios, fostering their ability to establish cause-and-effect relationships and identify similarities and differences.
Social Studies
Social Studies provides opportunities for students to cultivate the attitudes, skills, and knowledge necessary for active, informed, and responsible citizenship. Students learn to produce new insights, summarize information in their own words, and relate geographical events to their formation, distribution, and outcomes. They develop the ability to analyze graphs, explore different cultures, establish cause-and-effect relationships, and connect various historical issues in a chronological context. Interdisciplinary collaboration enhances information transfer across subjects.
Foreign Language
Our school implements a European-standard language training program, with English as the primary language of instruction. Our primary goal is to equip students with the ability to communicate globally, prepare them for international exams, and develop fluency in speaking, reading, comprehension, and writing.
Starting at age four, our Foreign Language Study Program utilizes phonics-based education. Our success is evident in our graduates’ ability to use Turkish and English effectively in all aspects of life, supported by Cambridge exam results at every level.
Once students have developed foundational skills in English, we introduce additional languages, such as German and Italian. We adopt a constructivist, student-centered, and creative approach to education, ensuring that all students are proficient in at least two foreign languages.
Students participate in various examinations and events to assess their language skills, including:
• Cambridge University Examinations
• TOEFL Junior
• TOEFL, PEARSON, IELTS, SAT
• Spelling Bee
• Dubbing Contest
• Destination Imagination
• World Scholars Cup
• Teeneagle
• Goethe Institut A1/A2 exams
With İzmir designated as Italy's foreign trade center, we have chosen Italian as a target language in collaboration with the Italian Consulate.
Music
The goals of our music education program are to nurture creative individuals who appreciate national music while being open to global music concepts. We achieve these objectives through the Orff pedagogy, which integrates music, drama, and dance. Our teachers receive annual training from counselors at the Austrian Orff Institute to enhance their skills.
Physical Education
In physical education classes, students learn about themselves, discover their strengths, and build self-confidence. Our activities aim to foster good sportsmanship and promote a healthy lifestyle. Through participation, students develop a spirit of unity and resilience, learning to overcome life’s challenges.
Plastic Arts
At Gelişim College, students recognize the importance of art in life, developing aesthetic sensibility and valuing artistic expression. Our plastic arts program encourages students to express their thoughts and feelings creatively.
Computer Science
To thrive in today’s world, students must possess technological skills alongside traditional academic competencies. At Gelişim College, computer courses are designed to enhance the skills students have acquired in previous years, with a focus on small class sizes to facilitate skill development. As students strengthen their foundational skills, they gain confidence in understanding abstract concepts and problem-solving.
Guidance
Our teachers aspire to see all students become happy and successful individuals. To achieve this, we emphasize the development of social skills, goal-setting, and effective communication. Guidance lessons include activities such as debates, drama, and games to raise student awareness.
I Solve the Problem (ISTP)
The "I Solve the Problem" (ISTP) program, developed by Prof. Dr. Selahattin Öğülmüş, is based on the Interpersonal Cognitive Problem Solving approach. This program equips children with practical strategies for addressing and evaluating problems, fostering empathy and emotional understanding.
Purpose:
The program aims to teach students how to solve and prevent problems arising from interpersonal conflicts. It emphasizes thinking critically about problems and expanding their own ideas rather than simply providing solutions.
Highlighted Points:
• The program focuses on how to think, rather than what to think.
• It teaches children to evaluate their thoughts and consider various perspectives.
Skills Developed:
• Awareness of others' feelings
• Exploration of multiple solutions
• Understanding potential consequences of each solution
• Decision-making skills
Methods:
Problem-solving skills are taught through games, stories, and drama, linking them to real-life situations.
Conclusion
As a result of this program, students will be able to solve problems effectively, articulate their thoughts clearly, respect and understand others' perspectives, and create constructive solutions.
